Third Mode Pentatonic Minor Scale Diagram

The Third Position of the Pentatonic Minor Scale

Continuing in the key of E minor we will now play the third position or mode of the E minor pentatonic scale. The third note in the scale of E minor pentatonic is A, so we will begin this third mode on the A at the 6th string, 5th fret. Notice how it directly ties to the second position we played earlier. Remember to learn these in order, so if you landed on this page first after searching the web, go up to the menu and find the first mode and begin there. Also note, this pattern is identical to the second mode of the Pentatonic Major. But, obviously the root notes (white) and 5ths (red) appear in different places.
