Natural Minor Scale Intro
The natural minor scale is a relative of the major scale. It also contains 7 notes, or degrees. If we follow this relationship, it’s based on the 6th degree of the major scale. The first position or mode of the natural minor scale is the Aeolian mode.
If we compare that to the major scale, you’ll find that the 6 position of the major scale is also the Aeolian mode. It’s the same. In the examples in these lessons I use the G major key. The relative minor, or 6 degree of that key, is E minor. So, the natural minor key examples here are based on E Minor.
There is a post or short lesson for each of the position of the scale. There are 7 notes, so there are 7 shapes / positions. I also identify them by their mode shape, but keep in mind that modes can stand on their own as scales. They just happen to have a relationship with the major and natural minor scales.
